Sharing your own work

File formats

If the work you are sharing is a worksheet or a unit of work - something made up of pages - it is best to share them in a Portable Document Format, better known as a PDF. If you don't have a program on your computer that can save documents as PDFs, you can use an online service to convert your documents to this format.

  • PDF Online - Converts nearly all Microsoft document formats (i.e. DOC, RTF, PPT, TXT, et cetera) to PDF.

Most digital image files are generally fine. Recommended formats include JPEG, GIF and PNG. Other formats, such as BMP and TIFF are okay, but files in these formats tend to be very large. If you have files in these formats that you would like to share, these should be converted to the PNG format first.

Uploading your files

We're not sure how to do this quite yet. Stay tuned.

Linking to your files

Find the wiki page that you feel is the most relevant for the content that you have just uploaded.

Click on the 'Edit' tab at the top of the page, or the 'Edit' link for that section of the page, found to the right of the heading for that section. In the appropriate space of the page editor, enter it in the following format:-

*[Your_file's_filename_and_location '''Your file's title'''] / by Your Name, Your Course and Graduation Year

A brief description of what your file is.

So for example, you should type something like this:-

*[http://www.example.org.au/Historylessonplan.pdf '''History Lesson Plan'''] / by Jill Jones, Education (Humanities
and Social Sciences), 2010

A lesson plan for learning about some people from a long time ago for year 7 students.

And you will get something that should look like this:-

A lesson plan for learning about some people from a long time ago for year 7 students.

Don't forget to save the page by clicking on the 'Save Page' button of the page editor.

Referencing

If you are uploading your own work, it is expected that you have referenced any sources that you have used to produce your work. If your work is contained in one file, like a PDF, then references should appear in your document.

If you are contributing resources which have been typed up on a Wiki page, you will still need to reference your work. See the Referencing Guide for how to reference in TeacherWiki.

Sharing resources from the internet

Linking to the resource

Find the wiki page that you feel is the most relevant for the content that you have just found.

Click on the 'Edit' tab at the top of the page, or the 'Edit' link for that section of the page, found to the right of the heading for that section. In the appropriate space of the page editor, enter it in the following format:-

*[http://www.the_resource's_location.com '''The resource's title'''] / by the author (if any) or source

A brief description of what the resources is.

So for example, you should type something like this:-

*[http://cityrail.info/timetable/ttable.jsp '''The CityRail Timetable'''] / by CityRail

The train timetable. You could use this for teaching students in mathematics or physics about calculating average speed.

And you will get something that should look like this:-
